Bio
Hannah Samoy is a Milwaukee-based multidisciplinary artist, originally from Illinois. She is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in fine arts with a minor in arts management at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Alongside her studies, she works in development and marketing at Arts @ Large, where she is dedicated to supporting the development of artist educators and their lasting impact on the community. In August 2024, Samoy completed her two-year role as the McMullan Curatorial Fellow at the Art Institute of Chicago, where she contributed to research, cataloging, and exhibition planning in Modern and Contemporary Art.
Her artistic practice acknowledges cultural practices, beliefs, and pieces of her family’s collective memory that were lost due to migration, colonization, and the passage of time. It simultaneously honors the people, objects, and places that continue to resonate throughout her lifetime. She most recently participated in the group exhibition “Dear Nature” with Sculpture Milwaukee, and “Of a Familiar Stranger” at Var Gallery in 2024. In 2023, She was a Gener8tor Art x Sherman Phoenix grant recipient.
